About Phil

Phil Heywood has been associated with planning in Queensland for more than thirty years, both as head of QUT’s Department of Planning & Landscape Architecture, and subsequently as a community planner, advocate and activist.

 

A Life Fellow and previous President of the Queensland PIA, he is author of Community Planning: integrating social and physical environments (2011); The Emerging Social Metropolis (1997); and Planning & Human Need (1974) as well as numerous articles on social planning, community governance, public participation and planning for truly independent societies.

 

He remains a Visiting Associate with QUT, supervising research projects and teaching planning processes and practice.
